It was the week of the dueling lottery bills. In the end, the Alabama Senate narrowly approved one of them, paving the way for a new potential source of state revenue. Alabama is one of a handful of states that doesn’t have a lottery. If the bill passes in the House, the matter then goes before voters, who will decide during next year’s presidential primary in March.

A state lottery is expected to generate $167 million a year. Don Dailey, host of Alabama Public Television’s Capitol Journal, says the money would be split evenly between the Alabama Trust Fund and the General Fund. We checked in for more on the lottery bill.
