Correction: WBHM originally reported the new Greater Birmingham Humane Society shelter will have a capacity for more than 18,000 animals. According to officials with the GBHS, that number was based on the shelter’s total intake numbers in 2015, not its ability to house animals at one time.

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society is one step closer to opening its new proposed 27-acre campus in Titusville. The Birmingham City Council this week approved the transfer of ownership of the property to GBHS for a new animal care facility which will include a park, a shelter and a veterinarian school and clinic. But the proposal was met with push back from some Titusville residents and we talk about that with Nick Patterson, editor of the weekly newspaper Weld.
